Schengen visa

Last updated: 26.06.2015 // The Norwegian Embassy in Colombo handles applications for Schengen visa to all Nordic Countries (Denmark, Finland, Iceland,Sweden) and Lithuania. The same application procedure applies for all countries. The country for where to apply is where the longest stay will be during the planned visit. If the length of stay in several planned visited countries are equal, the first country of entry applies.

Where to apply:

All applicants must register their application online in the Application Portal. When registering the application on-line, please do not use "Caps Lock" key and ensure that your full name is as it appears in the registered passport. If you don’t have access to a computer at home you can register online at our  Visa Application Centre (VAC) at VFS, No 61 Janadhipathi Mawatha, Colombo 1 www.vfsglobal.com/norway/srilanka/. Also your sponsor in Norway can register and pay for the application in the Application Portal.

Please note that when applying for a visa in the Application Portal you will be asked; Where do you send the application?. Here you should always choose the Norwegian Embassy in Colombo. Do not choose the country you want to travel to

You will be paying the visa fee in the Application Portal by way of a Credit Card. If you are entitled to fee-exemption this will be refunded by the Embassy. Click here for Fee Scheme.

Additional documents:

Additional documents must be personally handed in at VFS, Monday - Friday (08.00 to 16.00 hrs) without any prior appointment.

Checklist Tourist, Business & Family or Friends

If you intend to visit family members, boyfriend, girlfriend or other friends or are going on a business trip or travel just as a tourist, click on one of the checklists to the right for details.

Checklists can also be picked up at Norwegian Embassy's Visa Application Centre (VAC) at VFS.

Multiple entries:

A visa is generally granted for a single entry into the Schengen-area. If you have a special need, you can be issued a visa that is valid for multiple entries during a period for up to five years. Such visas are only available for certain categories of applicants, e.g. business persons, truck drivers, seafarers, family members of Norwegian citizens living abroad etc. The need for multiple entries has to be documented.

Handling time

We advise all applicants to apply as early as possible and no later than 15 days prior to departure. The handling time for an application for a Schengen visa (type C) may take up to 15 days and if further scrutiny or consultations has to be made up to 30 or 60 days (Visa Code Article 23). An application for a C-visa can however not be submitted earlier than three months before the planned journey. The additional documentation shall not be issued/dated more than six months before the planned journey.

The applicant will be contacted by the Embassy when the case has been processed.
