Multiple entries:

A visa is generally granted for a single entry into the Schengen-area. If you have a special need, you can be issued a visa that is valid for multiple entries during a period for up to five years. Such visas are only available for certain categories of applicants, e.g. business persons, truck drivers, seafarers, family members of Norwegian citizens living abroad etc. The need for multiple entries has to be documented.

Handling time

We advise all applicants to apply as early as possible and no later than 15 days prior to departure. The handling time for an application for a Schengen visa (type C) may take up to 15 days and if further scrutiny or consultations has to be made up to 30 or 60 days (Visa Code Article 23). An application for a C-visa can however not be submitted earlier than three months before the planned journey. The additional documentation shall not be issued/dated more than six months before the planned journey.

The applicant will be contacted by the Embassy when the case has been processed.

Procedure for applicants from Sri Lanka:

The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Colombo represents and handle applications for Schengen visa to any Nordic country and Lithuania in the first instance. For the represented countries the Embassy is instructed to grant and issue a visa. Be advised that Sri lankan Nationals are subject to the schengen consultation process before a Visa could be issued. This might take several days after the Embassy has assessed the case and is beyond the Embassy's control.

To Norway / Denmark / Sweden / Finland / Iceland & Lithuania.

The Embassy may reject an application. Rejections can be appealed to the Embassy which will normally forward the appeal to the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration in Norway unless the decision is reversed by the Embassy.
Nevertheless the mere fact is that possession of a visa does not confer an automatic right of entry, and that the holders of visa are requested to present proof that they fulfil the entry conditions at the external border, as stipulated in Article 5 of the Schengen Borders Code.

Applicants from The Maldives:

Applicants from the Maldives can also apply in the Application Portal. Please note that for the system to accept the application you have to choose “Colombo” and not “Male'” as the place to hand in your application. The fee is paid online in the Application Portal. You may also apply directly at the Consulate in Male' and at the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Colombo. The passport and the supporting documentation must be personally handed in to the either the Norwegian Honorary Consulate in Male' or the Norwegian Embassy in Colommbo. It applies an extra fee for the courier service.

Applicants from other countries:

Applicants from other countries than Sri Lanka and Maldives shall follow the same procedure as given above, but there may be additional requests for documentation and procedures may diverge. One extra compulsory requirement is that a valid work or residence permit for Sri Lanka or Maldives, with validity no less than three months after planned return from the visit has to be presented.
