Norway deeply concerned by humanitarian situation in Vanni
PR 3/09. Norway re-iterates that humanitarian aid must be allowed to reach the affected people without hindrance, that medical care for the civilians must be given priority, that there must be freedom of movement for internally displaced people, and that hospital-functions are not obstructed.
Norway is deeply concerned about recent reports of increasing number of civilian casualties and the lack of free movement for the civilian population in the Vanni area. Norway re-iterates that humanitarian aid must be allowed to reach the affected people without hindrance, that medical care for the civilians must be given priority, that there must be freedom of movement for internally displaced people, and that hospital-functions are not obstructed, in accordance with international humanitarian law. Norway urges the Government of Sri Lanka and the LTTE to comply with international humanitarian law.
