State Secretary Tore Hattrem visits Jaffna

State secretary Tore Hattrem today visited returnees to recently released land areas in Valalai, Northern Province, as part of his two-day visit to Sri Lanka. Valalai is part of a Norwegian supported project implemented by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to support livelihoods within fisheries and agriculture of returnees. Mr Hattrem was informed about the project and spoke to some of the returned families.
- The Village of Valalai was recently released to returnees. It was good to meet representatives of the community to better understand their situation. There is a well documented need for assistance to rebuilding and livelihood development in such areas, Mr Hattrem commented on the visit.
During his visit to the Northern Province, Mr Hattrem also met with the Governor and Chief Minister of the Northern Province, and the Commander in Jaffna. During the two day visit to Sri Lanka Mr Hattrem also had political meetings in Colombo with Foreign Minister Hon. Mangala Samaraweera, the speaker of the Parliament, Hon.
