Norway supports Galle Literary Festival

The annual Galle Literary Festival in Sri Lanka aims to inspire learning through literature and the arts. The Festival is both intimate and international, taking place within the charmed surroundings of the historic fort in Galle, and drawing writers and visitors from all over the world. This year’s festival takes place 18-22 January 2012.
The festival has built up a large outreach programme which is aimed at helping young people throughout Sri Lanka with workshops and other events aimed at increasing understanding between communities.
The Norwegian Embassy is happy to support some of the events of the Galle Literary Festival 2012. We believe that the panel discussion under the theme of Forgiveness, Reconciliation and Responsibility in Literature is an important topic to discuss during the ongoing post war situation in the country. Also the Panel on Trauma and Literature will provide the opportunity of speaking about an event or experience which is traumatic; how storytelling can act as a way to heal both collective and individual trauma.
The Norwegian Embassy is also supporting the cultural events and through this, the audience will get the opportunity of seeing several short films.
