Where to apply:
All applicants are encouraged to apply at the Norwegian Embassy's Visa Application Centre (VAC) at VFS, 6th floor, East Tower, Echelon Place, World Trade Center, Colombo 1 www.vfsglobal.com/norway/srilanka/.
To get priority, register your application into the Application Portal https://selfservice.udi.no BEFORE you go to VFS. In the Application Portal you can pay the fee and make a booking at VFS to handle in the passport and the additional documentation.
The country for where to apply is where the longest stay will be during the planned visit. If the length of stay in several planned visited countries are equal, the first country of entry applies.
Handling time
An application for a C-visa shall not be submitted earlier than three months before the planned journey. The additional documentation shall not be issued/dated more than six months before the planned journey.
The handling time for an application for a Schengen visa (type C) may take up to 15 days and if further scrutiny or consultations has to be made up to 30 or 60 days (Visa Code Article 23).
Unless it is an official visit and the traveller is on a diplomatic or official passport and the applicant is applying later than 15 days before departure, the only way to get any priority is to apply via the Application Portal.
The applicant will be contacted by the Embassy when the case has been processed.
Procedure for applicants from Sri Lanka:
The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Colombo represents and handle all applications for a Schengen visa to any Nordic country (Denmark, Iceland, Sweden and Finland) in the first instance. For the represented countries the Embassy is instructed to grant and issue a visa to bona fide applicants. For other applicants the Embassy may issue a visa after decision by the Immigration Authority of the represented country.
To Norway:
The Embay may reject an application. Rejections can be appealed to the Embassy which will normally forward the appeal to the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration in Norway unless the decision is reversed by the Embassy.
To Denmark:
Male applicants to Denmark in the age between 15 and 45 have to reckon one additional week due to a certain compulsory procedure.
From 1st September 2011 non bona fide applications are sent to the Danish Immigration Service in Copenhagen for decision.
To Finland:
Non bona fide applications are sent forward to the Finnish Embassy in New Delhi for further handling.
To Iceland:
Non bona fide applications are sent forward to Icelandic Directorate of Immigration for further handling.
To Sweden:
Non bona fide applications are sent forward to the Swedish Embassy in New Delhi for further handling.
Applicants from The Maldives:
Applicants from the Maldives may apply directly at the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Colombo after prior appointment or enter the application into the Visa Application Portal https://selfservice.udi.no. The fee is paid online. The passport and the supporting documentation can be handled in to the Norwegian Honorary Consulate in Male'. It applies an extra fee for the courier service.
All applications has to be handed in personally at the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Colombo or at the Consulate in Male'.
Applicants from other countries:
Applicants from other countries than Sri Lanka and Maldives shall follow the same procedure as given above, but there may be additional requests for documentation and procedures may diverge. One extra compulsory requirement is that a valid work or residence permit for Sri Lanka or Maldives, with validy no less than three months after planned return from the visit has to be presented.
