Travel insurance

// A medical insurance is compulsory when travelling to the Schengen area on a C visa. According to the Schengen Visa Code as of 6 April 2010 a valid travel insurance now has to be submitted together with the application. Any visa issued now has to be given a 15 days period of grace. The validity of the insurance must therefore be added 15 days on top of the planned period of travel. The validity of the visa can only be issued according to the validity of the travel insurance.

If the application is rejected the applicant has to claim any refund to the Insurance Company. The Embassy has no responsibilty for any such refund.

Applicants are asked to show the original policy of their travel medical insurance and submit a copy of the policy with their application. See relevant checklist of documentation to be submitted.

Please note that the insurance must be valid for the whole period of the visa’s validity + 15 days of grace (up to one year), be valid for all countries in the Schengen area and cover medical expenses of at least 30,000 Euro, as well as repatriation.

For visas valid for more than one year, the applicant has to sign an additional document stating that he/she will keep a valid travel insurance with the above mentioned conditions at any travel in Schengen in the period of the validity of the visa issued.
