Below you will find an updated checklist for document requirements for a Schengen visa (type C) with a maximum stay of 90 days in Norway, Denmark, Finland, Iceland or Sweden and the Schengen area.
If you intend to visit family members, boyfriend, girlfriend or other friends in Norway or are going on a business trip or travel just as a tourist, please use one of the following checklists (updated 15.09.2011):

Applicants are recomended regardless to use the Application Portal (https://selfservice.udi.no) to register the application, pay the fee and make a booking at VFS, to avoid waiting time there when the additional documentation has to be submitted in person together with the passport. NOTE: When registering the application on-line, please do NOT use "Caps Lock" key and ensure that your full name is as it appears in the registered passport - DO NOT USE CAPITAL LETTERS.
Anyone registering the application online will be put in front of the handling line, since this is saving the Embassy's workload.
The handling fee has to be paid compulsory with a credit card, but will be refunded online to those entitled for exemption.
Application form and checklist can also be picked up at Norwegian Embassy's Visa Application Centre (VAC) at VFS, 6th floor, East Tower, Echelon Place, World Trade Center, Colombo 1, where the application also can be submitted in paper Monday - Thursday 08.00 - 14.00 and Friday 08.00 - 12.00 without any prior appointment. Paper based applications will normally not be given any priority, regardless of the travelling circumstances.
The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Colombo also represent Denmark, Finland, Iceland and Sweden. For all the countries the same application procedure applies.
Procedure
When submitting an application the applicant have to pay a handling fee according to the Fee Scheme. If a visa is granted the visa will be issued according to the validity of the presented compulsory travel insurance.
According to the Schengen Visa Code article 23 it will normally be made a decision within 15 calendar days after submission. However if certain examination procedures has to take place, like forwarding the application to the right authority of the representing country, the handling time may take up to 30 days. For applications to Denmark there are a certain compulsory procedure for male applicants between 15 and 45 years of age, which may take one week more cannot be omitted.
